Sue Potter retired as co-ordinator of the North Berwick Volunteer Car Scheme on Wednesday after 11 years service.

During that time she saw the initiative presented with the Community Award which is given annually by the North Berwick and District Association of Churches.

For the past 20 years the scheme has been offering lifts to housebound people who would otherwise find it difficult or even impossible to get to the doctor’s surgery, Roodlands Hospital in Haddington, the day centre, shopping or the hairdresser’s.

Sue (69) was affectionately referred to by its management committee as the “face” and “voice” of the initiative, working from her home at Smileyknowes Court.
