Special honour for East Lothian charity
A children’s charity, which provides emotional and mental health support to children, parents and teachers in East Lothian, is has been awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award.
Place2Be works in six schools in East Lothian, supporting 1,514 children.
Its volunteer counsellors work with youngsters aged four to 14 at school, helping them to cope with issues and build their resilience so they can face brighter futures. Wide-ranging issues from bullying and bereavement to neglect and trauma are targeted in one-to-one counselling sessions or group work.
Suzanne Kennelly, Place2Be volunteer counsellor at St Gabriel’s RC Primary School in Prestonpans, said: “Volunteering with Place2Be has been an amazing experience for me. I sleep better at night knowing that my volunteering makes the world a little safer, a little kinder for those local children who need it the most. It’s just a few hours of my time once a week, but the difference it makes to the children is personally so rewarding, I love watching them growing in confidence and happiness.”
