Sparking interest in an energy career
Torness apprentice.
The search is on for new recruits to join EDF Energy’s engineering maintenance apprenticeship scheme.
Here’s what apprentice Danielle Smith (26) from Macmerry, had to say about her job at Torness Nuclear Power Station near Dunbar:
“I’m an electrical maintenance apprentice for EDF Nuclear Generation, currently finishing my last year of a four year apprenticeship, after finishing my two years residential training at HMS Sultan near Portsmouth.
“While looking at different company’s apprenticeships on the internet I came across EDF Energy and right away realised they could offer me by far the best apprenticeship training, with the greatest benefits.
“The salary is higher than the average apprenticeship and, while based at HMS Sultan, all food, travel and accommodation is paid for. EDF Energy have eight nuclear power stations across Britain and they send all apprentices on a six day holiday on average every five weeks, again funded by the company. You really feel you are being well cared for and the company has your best interests at heart!”
