Skiff John B sets sail in honour of former Provost

It was all aboard the Skiff John B on Saturday as racing rowers saw their second boat take to the ocean wave at North Berwick.

The vessel, called after North Berwick's last Provost the late John Bennett Macnair MBE, was piped down to the lifeboat slipway near the harbour by the local pipe band.

His daughter Wendy Hughes had the honour of leading the naming ceremony along with Robbie Wightman, chairman of the North Berwick rowing group, before North Berwick's second St Ayles skiff was launched into the Firth of Forth.

Mr Macnair's son John, a retired GP, said the family, including eldest son Bill, who runs Gilsland Caravan Park, had always intended to do something in their father's memory.
