Sir Garth backs food and drink industry career path
The president of this year's Royal Highland Show, Sir Garth Morrison, has announced a new scheme aimed at attracting more young people into careers in the Scottish food and drink industry.
The aim of the initiative, called 'Discover Careers…from farm to fork,' is to encourage young adults of 16 to 25 years old to see the merits of a career in the agricultural, food and drink and allied industry sectors and bring into focus the various opportunities available, and skills used.
Sir Garth, East Lothian's Lord Lieutenant, of West Fenton, Gullane, said: "The need for an intelligent, educated, motivated and knowledgeable workforce is emerging as a pressing national priority.
This year's Royal Highland Show presidential team is passionate about helping to attract enthusiastic and talented young people into one of Scotland's most important industries.

"This is a great opportunity not just for those entering the competition, but for the food and drink and allied industries to shout about all of the career opportunities available and attract people who are going to help the industry achieve its ambitions to make Scotland known as a land of food and drink.
"It is also a superb chance for all young people looking for a career path to explore what the food and drink industry can offer them."

A competition will allow young people to research products and skills in the Scottish sector and demonstrate the range of careers available to them.
Finalists will win the chance for their work to be displayed at the Royal Highland Show which takes place from June 24 to 27.
This will take the form of a career pathway which any visitor will be able to follow around the showground.
