Seeking justice for Tranent man Steven
Officers and forensic experts scour the murder scene for evidence in Tranent. Steven Brown was beaten to death in the early hours of Saturday night, Sunday morning.
The family of a Tranent man murdered almost 14 years ago have welcomed the reopening of the investigation into his death.
Steven Brown (35), was found lying dead in a field near Elphinstone on the morning of Sunday February 21, 1999. He had been badly beaten and stabbed several times.
A major reinvestigation – with a reward of £5000 for information leading to the conviction of his killers – was launched last week by Lothian and Borders Police.
Witnesses at the time reported hearing a disturbance, involving a large group of men and women, in nearby Kerr Road in Tranent around midnight the previous evening.
Officers, who have now established an incident room in Edinburgh, believe Mr Brown may have been involved, and may have sustained his injuries during this disturbance.
Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111. The number for the new confidential line is 0131 311 5972 or email operationthermal@lbp.pnn.police.uk
