Search for dog owner after swan mauled on beach
AN appeal for information has been made after a mute swan suffered horrific injuries when it was attacked by a dog on the beach at Port Seton on Saturday September 4.
The bird had to be put to sleep following the incident which happened at Seton Sands, opposite the caravan park, at about 10am.
Jenny Scott, an inspector with the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said: "We were contacted by a member of the public who witnessed a Staffordshire bull terrier type dog attacking the swan on the beach, to its severe injury.
"The witness alleges that the owner of the dog did not try to get his dog off the swan and when he became aware of the witnesses' presence, he ran off into the bushes and into Port Seton Caravan Park."
She explained: "The owner is described as male and wearing jeans and a brown top. The dog is dark in colour and was being walked on the beach off-lead at the time of the incident."
