Seal is rescued after being trapped in net

A seal pup had a lucky escape when it became trapped in a fishing net at North Berwick recently.

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was alerted to the plight of the animal on the beach.

Animal rescue officer Melissa Maitland and two members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue assisted in setting the seal free from the net and were able to release him back into the water unharmed.

She said: “He was well and truly tangled up in the net but he was lucky to survive with only a little bit of hair loss from around his neck.”
