Residents in fear as drug war escalates

Police in Prestonpans are being urged to take action before an escalating drugs war claims more innocent victims.

Families living in Schaw Road claim they have become caught up in revenge attacks and intimidation tactics, which have seen a number of vehicles torched in recent weeks.

Members attending a meeting of Prestonpans Community Council, earlier this month, were assured by Community Constable Greg McBeth that CID were investigating a series of "drugs-related" incidents, the perpetrators of which were not thought to be local.

Worried

But community councillor Harry Cairney said local residents needed to be reassured by the police that the situation was under control.

He pointed out that neighbours in the area were becoming increasingly worried for the safety of their families, amid fears that the wrong people could be targeted.

One local resident, who contacted the News this week, said these fears had now been confirmed, following an incident last week in which his car and another vehicle were "petrol bombed."
