Reading initiative at Dunbar Primary School.

Members of the community in Dunbar are being urged to pick up a book by local schoolchildren.

The youngsters have launched a ‘Dunbar Reads Together’ initiative, nominating three books that they hope people will enjoy reading. Copies of ‘The Highway Rat’ by Julia Donaldson, ‘Billionaire Boy’ by David Wallians and Sue Monk-Kidd’s ‘The Secret Life of Bees’ have been placed at the train sation, doctors’ surgery, local vets, cafes and other venues in and around the town.

It is hoped people will pick up one of the 70 books which are out and about, read it, blog about it and then leave it for someone else to enjoy.

Co-ordinator Lindsey Barely said: “This part of our project is about getting people to read everywhere and anywhere. We need the people of Dunbar to support our reading initiative.”
