QMU proposes perfect name for new bridge

Musselburgh’s Queen Margaret University believes it has come up with the perfect name for the Forth replacement crossing.

As the Scottish Government asked for nominations to identify the best name, staff and students set the ball rolling by proposing it be called the Queen Margaret Bridge.

One of Scotland’s most admired historical figures, Queen Margaret was canonised as a saint in 1250.

She became Queen Consort of King Malcolm Canmore of Scotland and her considerable influence with her husband and Scottish society ensured that he was one of the most successful Scottish kings of his age.

A deeply religious and charitable woman, Margaret was responsible for establishing the ferry across the Firth of Forth for pilgrims travelling north to St Andrews.
