Kind-hearted children at the Compass School in Haddington raised £1,300 to support the launch of the East Lothian Foodbank which helps people in need.

They handed over the cheque to James Bruce, the foodbank’s chairman, and its secretary, Fiona O’Donnell MP, at a presentation at the school on Monday. The pupils decided to devote the main thrust of their Christmas fundraising to the initiative.

Youngsters in P1 and P2, and their parents, raised £544 from a Christmas craft sale in early December and this was followed by a Christmas musical showcase by older children at Holy Trinity Church which netted £329.
