MACMERRY: Macmerry Miners Welfare and Social Club

Macmerry Miners’ Welfare and Social Club has received a positive report from licensing watchdogs since it converted to an open licence.

The go-ahead for the plan was given by East Lothian Licensing Board last September meaning functions could be held at the Main Street premises without the need for members to sign-in guests, in a bid to boost finances.

At that time the police objected to the open licence as they were still actively monitoring the club following a licence review hearing and were due to report back to the board in January, 2013.

At the July review hearing the board had issued a written warning on the grounds that the club had breached the licensing objectives of preventing crime and disorder, and preventing public nuisance, and had operated in breach of the rules on signing in guests.
