Police renew plea over murder of Tranent man Steven Brown

Waiting for Video...

Complaints about witness intimidation have been made to detectives investigating the murder of a Tranent man almost 14 years ago.

Steven Brown (35) was found dead in a field near Elphinstone on the morning of Sunday, February 21, 1999. He had been badly beaten and stabbed several times.

A reinvestigation of the case, launched three weeks ago, has now uncovered new information and forensic evidence dating back to 1999.

In response to information received, Lothian and Borders Police this week carried out door-to-door enquiries in the Kings Road area of Tranent.

Detective Inspector Gary Boyd, who is leading the investigation, also moved to reassure people in the town that they have nothing to fear from coming forward with information about Mr Brown’s death.

The charity Crimestoppers is offering a £5000 reward for anyone who can offer information leading to a prosecution.

Anyone who can help with enquiries is asked to contact the confidential hotline on 0131 311 5972, or email OperationThermal@lbp.pnn.police.uk

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
