Police make arrest

A 51-year-old man has been charged with alleged drug offences after cannabis worth more than £8,000 was seized from a property in Prestonpans.

Police officers working as part of Operation Ergot discovered a number of cannabis plants and growing equipment while carrying out a search in Middleshot Square last Friday.

Sergeant Derek MacDonald, who is leading on Operation Ergot, said: “We have once again acted upon the information from the public and have successfully recovered cannabis before it could be distributed within our communities.

“Lothian and Borders Police will continue to gather intelligence drug crime and any offences detected will be robustly dealt with.

“Anyone who wishes to report drug crime in their area can contact their local policing team or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers in complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.”

A man will appear in court at a later date.
