Police appeal after Dirleton break-in

Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses following a housebreaking and theft in East Lothian.

The incident happened sometime between 7.30pm and 11.20pm on Monday at an address in Maxwell Road, Dirleton.

On returning home, the owner found that the property had been broken into and a number of items of jewellery, including a platinum ring with an emerald inset and diamond baguettes on either side, had been stolen.

The ring is valued at £8,000.

A three-figure sum of cash was also taken during this incident and police are keen to speak to anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the area.

A police spokesman said: “Not only is the jewellery of significant financial value, it also holds great sentimental importance to the victim, who is keen to have the stolen items returned.

“Anyone who can assist with our enquiries into this theft is asked to contact police immediately.”

Those with information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
