Haddington Pipe Band has hit a high note as one of just 19 in the UK to win a BBC Performing Arts Fund grant.

The accolade, made under the music fellowship scheme, will enable the pipers and drummers to work for a year with one of the country’s leading young composers, Ailie Robertson.

Over the next year she will spend time on a regular basis with the band, both to build up her own expertise and develop compositions, culminating in a end-of-year performance.

She has composed for a diverse range of projects but said: “I am absolutely delighted to have this opportunity to work with Haddington Pipe Band. I look forward to developing our relationship over the coming year, and am excited to start working with, and composing for, them.”
