Pedal power for Tranent dancer
Danielle Smith, a 16 year-old nursery assistant at Wallyford Primary, is doing a 31-mile sponsored bike ride from Linlithgow to Pathway
Sixteen-year-old Danielle Smith completed a 31-mile sponsored bike ride from Linlithgow to Tranent in three hours on Saturday to raise money for future events for her dancing troupe.
The Wallyford Primary nursery assistant has been a member of the Absolutely Legless Irish Dance troupe for a year and a half and has danced at two Edinburgh Festival Fringes with them.
Danielle has been living at East Lothian Council’s Pathway Resource Centre for the last nine months and had been in foster care before that.
She said: “Dancing changed my life. I was finding things very difficult after my dad died and joining Absolutely Legless helped me to turn things around. It’s given me friendships. I feel amazing when I’m dancing – it’s really good for taking my mind off things and I really love being part of the group.
“I’m looking forward to going abroad with the group next year and I want to do what I can to get funds for our trips. Friends, colleagues at work and people at Pathway have been really generous sponsors.”
Danielle is a keen cyclist – she’s done both the Megacycle and Pedal for Scotland this year, and she’s also the Race for Life 10k run round Arthur’s Seat this year to raise money for cancer charities. Anyone wishing to support Absolutely Legless’s travel plans, can contact Danielle at Pathway on 01875 610794.
