A North Berwick Community Council stalwart has retired after 15 years service, saying it had been “a huge privilege and honour” to serve the community.

Mrs Pat Burton conducted her last meeting as chairman on Tuesday before the community council elections yesterday (Thursday).

She decided not to seek re-election, saying: “I think two four year terms is a lot and is enough for one person to do. With 15 years on the community council, I’d like to do some other things now. I have always tended to put the community council work first - it has been my number one priority.”

Mrs Burton had been a Conservative councillor for the Longniddry area on the former East Lothian District Council and decided to put her experience to good use by becoming involved with North Berwick Community Council as she wanted to contribute something to the town where she had lived for a decade.
