Former Cross Keys pub - 26 to 28 Bridge Street, Tranent.

A PLAN to turn the empty Cross Keys pub in Tranent into an off- sales shop at a cost of £250,000 got the go-ahead from licensing watchdogs last week.

However, objectors said there were too many shops selling alcohol in the area and highlighted constant problems with youths hanging about.

A petition, signed by 18 people, claimed there was already an issue with binge drinking amongst youths in East Lothian and another off-sales outlet would be “bad” for the community.

Four separate objections were received from other shop owners, with one claiming there was “a massive growing problem” of under-age drinking in the area.”
