Well-known Dunbar businessman Wasyl Hawryluk died on Saturday at the age of 91.

Born in Zubres, Western Ukraine, the son of farmer Stefan Hawryluk and his wife Hannah Zavaryn, he was the youngest of a family of six.

Mr Hawryluk married his wife Daisy in 1956 at St Paul’s and St George’s and they set up home in Union Place in Edinburgh. Daisy came from a business background as her parents ran a family grocers. She and her husband built a shop and house at Magdalane which they kept until 1970.

The couple then moved with their family to Dunbar and Mr Hawryluk set up the Ocean fish and chip shop in the High Street which met local demand and attracted queues during the summer season.
