North Berwick fire crew support appreciated

Enquiries are still ongoing into the cause of a blaze which destroyed North Berwick Fire Station last week.

Following talks with East Lothian Council, the local part-time crew are working from a temporary base at the town’s civic amenity centre yard on Heugh Road in the Heugh Industrial Estate.

It is expected that this base will be needed for a number of months to allow Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service to develop plans for repairing and restoring the damage to the fire station in Station Road.

David Lockhart, local senior officer for East Lothian, thanked the public for their concern and support, saying: “We are pleased that we have managed to get a new base for local crews organised and ready to go operational within less than a week. We have also had to replace the crews’ uniforms and other personal equipment which was lost in the fire.”
