No schools to be used for polling

For the first time ever no schools in East Lothian will be closed on polling day as voters prepare for the council elections on May 3.

In Elphinstone, the community centre which has opened next to the school will be used as a polling station instead of the school.

Although voting has recently taken place in Whitecraig Community Centre, this has prevented the adjoining school opening on election day.

Jim Lamond, Head of Governance & Performance Management, told a full meeting of East Lothian Council last week that suitable arrangements have been agreed in discussion with the head teacher that will enable the school to stay open.

But concern was raised that Dunbar’s polling station was being moved from Hallhill Healthy Living Centre to the new community centre which was under construction.
