An “overwhelming” number of entries from East Lothian amateur photographers have been short listed in this year’s Nature Photography Awards organised by the Scottish Seabird Centre.

Tom Brock OBE, the North Berwick tourist attraction’s chief executive, praised the level of talent in the county after 24 shots made the final.

Flash floods in South Africa, a close-up of an adder and a Sri Lankan lotus flower were just some of the striking images submitted for the seventh annual competition.

There were 437 entries across the six adult categories plus 54 juniors making this the highest number of entries received since the awards began.

Entries were submitted from across the UK from Worcester to Aviemore and this year the centre also welcomed entries from Germany and California.

The judges - award-winning nature photographer Laurie Campbell, freelance photographer Graham Riddell and editor Richard Bath - were hugely impressed by the standard of entries and the creativity shown.
