Musselburgh man to be evicted

East Lothian Council has been granted an eviction order against a Musselburgh tenant.

The council had applied for the order following John Paul Johnstone’s conviction at Haddington Sheriff Court of an offence of being concerned in the supply of heroin within the Millhill area of Musselburgh.

Mr Johnstone (35) of 2f Bush Street, had been sentenced to 10 months imprisonment in respect of the offence but the council had also received multiple reports implicating Mr Johnstone and his visitors behaving in an antisocial manner in and around his home on a number of occasions. This behaviour had caused a considerable degree of distress to his neighbours. Mr Johnstone had also accumulated rent arrears in excess of £1600 and the council was also awarded this sum together with the expenses of the legal action.

Council leader, Willie Innes, said: “The council takes a strong line against drug dealing within local communities and following Mr Johnstone’s conviction we took action to terminate his tenancy agreement.”
