Musselburgh and Wallyford pair admit killing ‘gentle soul’ John
John Auld, from Ormiston, died after attack in Tranent March 2012 picture submitted by Lothian and Borders Police
A man from Musselburgh and his accomplice from Wallyford have admitted killing a delivery driver following a row about wet paint at a kebab shop in Tranent.
Royal Scots veteran John Auld (59) from Ormiston, was attacked by the pair and later died after going to the aid of the owner of Kopas Takeaway.
Steven Archibald, of Edenhall Crescent, Musselburgh, and Michael Sutherland, of Inchview Road, Wallyford, had sentence deferred for background reports when they appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday.
They were originally charged with murdering Mr Auld following the assault on March 4 last year, but the Crown accepted their guilty pleas to the charge of culpable homicide.
The court heard how one of the killers was still complaining about paint damage to his jacket when police detained him after he took part in the fatal attack.
Archibald and Sutherland ended up with staining on their clothing after turning up at a newly painted takeaway, despite warning signs being in place and a verbal warning from the proprietor.
