Methadone bottle found in play park

The discovery of a methadone bottle in a children's play park has outraged parents in Prestonpans.

Mum-of-four Emma Hogg and her friend Katie Rogers came across the bottle — containing a small spoonful of the potentially lethal liquid — while walking through the park in Rigley Terrace, known locally as the top park.

Mrs Hogg (29) told the News: "There are a lot of young children who stay in this area who play in that park and it doesn't bear thinking about what could have happened if a child had got hold of this bottle first.

Fatal

The risks posed to children by methadone — given to drug addicts to wean them off heroin — were highlighted recently when an Edinburgh woman was jailed for three years for dipping a baby's dummy in the substance to stop him crying.

Experts warned that as little as half a teaspoon could prove fatal, after the baby almost died.
