Mature students pass courses with top marks

IT students and their tutors at the Pennypit Centre, Prestonpans

A group of “mature” students at the Pennypit Centre have proved that age is no barrier to achievement.

All in their 60s and 70s, the women passed with flying colours after enrolling for courses in web design and IT core skills.

The Pennypit, which provides an educational service and community hub for the people Prestonpans, provided the outreach courses in partnership with Edinburgh College.

IT Core Skills student Helen Cherry (75) was among those to successfully complete her course.

“When I first came to the centre I couldn’t work a computer. I really only wanted to learn the basics at first and never dreamt I’d get a qualification out of it,” she said.
