Management committee formed for Gullane Village Hall

A management committee has been formed to cope with the increased use of the refurbished Gullane Village Hall.

Eric Thomson, chairman of the village's community association, outlined the need for changes in the administrative structure, manned entirely by volunteers, at the annual general meeting.

The management committee, which is separate from the trustees, will deal with fund-raising events as well as looking after the fabric and equipment. Craig Allan was elected vice-chairman.

The re-election of Ellen Tait as bookings secretary is conditional upon finding someone to take the lead role in co-ordinating hall events.

John McCollam, the retiring chairman, said: "The hall is increasingly used for events such as birthday parties, weddings and fund-raising.

The youth drama group is flourishing and the event activities for badminton, pilates and Scouts continue."

Re-elected treasurer, Iain Blakebell, reported a healthy balance of 22,000, almost all of which was already committed to major refurbishment of the kitchen, main hall floor and upgrading the stage equipment.

It is expected that this will result in further use of the facility in the future. Funds and helpers for increased use of the hall during the day are also being sought.

Mr McCollam said: "We are grateful to those villagers who have given financial help and hope that more will do so.

"We are also grateful to the Lottery Awards for All scheme for a grant of 7,580 towards upgrading the kitchen."

Lyn Vaughan was re-elected general secretary. Mr McCollam thanked the office-bearers for their "unstinting commitment" to their tasks and a witty tribute was paid to him by Mr Blakebell over a glass of wine and nibbles.
