Angry residents on the east side of Musselburgh have likened their estate to the “lost world of Atlantis” following years of alleged neglect by East Lothian Council.

Members of the Wimpey Community Association claim those living in the “forgotten area” have been abandoned to endure ongoing problems of antisocial behaviour, rundown infrastructure and outstanding repairs.

Association chairman Andrew Price has now written to council bosses proposing that a problem-solving partnership be established to tackle the issues one by one.

He told the News: “The Wimpey estate could be the lost world of Atlantis for all the difference it would make, as we are completely frustrated at the lack of action from East Lothian Council.”

Mr Price believes there has been no inspection of the estate for three or four years, despite a council policy committing to at least one a year.
