Labour gears up for election

The members of Dunbar and East Linton District Labour Party have selected their candidates for the East Lothian Council elections on May 3.

Councillor Norman Hampshire and Ms Hayley Flanagan will contest the Dunbar and East Linton ward.

Meanwhile, Tranent and District Labour Party selected Councillors Donald Grant and Jim Gillies, along with Shamin Akhtar, to contest the Fa’side ward.

Ms Akhtar lives in Pencaitland and is a former President of NUS Scotland. She has spent most of her career working in the voluntary sector, including 10 years with SCVO, the national umbrella body for charities.
