Labour chiefs let local party members decide MP's future
Labour Party bosses have agreed to let local activists decide the fate of county MP Anne Moffat.
Members of Labour's governing body, the National Executive Committee (NEC), were last week balloted by post on whether East Lothian Constituency Labour Party should be allowed to call an all-member special meeting to vote on replacing Ms Moffat as its candidate for the general election.
When votes were counted on Wednesday March 10 it became clear that the troubled MP's political career was in jeopardy, as party chiefs voted in favour of handing her fate into the hands of the CLP's 600-strong membership.
Immediately
Speaking on behalf of Ms Moffat last week, one of her aides told the News that the under-fire MP was "not fazed" by the prospect of local members deciding her fate.
Meanwhile, the top officers of East Lothian Constituency Labour Party have called on the MP to stand down immediately.
In a statement, they said: "In the interests of unity and common sense we call Anne Moffat to stand down immediately as prospective candidate for East Lothian."
