Insurance trouble for town’s dinghy owners

Victims of the December storm that wrecked dinghies during a night of destruction at North Berwick harbour are now battling insurance problems.
In a letter to North Berwick Community Council, a couple called for Elcho Green to be made immediately available as a storage area for the boats which suffered damage when the dinghy park was flooded with 2.5m of water.
They said although they had bought a replacement for their laser dinghy through a successful insurance claim, the insurers had refused to write a new policy because there had been three “negative events” in the town in a three year period. “Other agents may refuse to insure North Berwick owners or raise premiums to unacceptable levels,” they feared.
