Kathleen Blackie hands over the reins at Ian Glass garage.

SisterS Kathleen Blackie and Sheila Herschell are set to enjoy the fruits of their labours now they’ve retired from the family garage in Haddington which was sold last week.

New owners Tustain Motors Ltd, who operate three other Vauxhall outlets in Berwick, Alnwick and Ashington, have taken over the reins of the business which was started by their father Ian Glass more than 40 years ago.

He began his career as a bus and taxi operator back in 1958, working from Hope Park, now the car park of the Railway Hotel. In 1971 Mr Glass bought the Hawthornbank Farm site in Hopetoun Drive where the present garage, known as the West End Garage, was built.
