HTA dips a toe in water with new festival event in Musselburgh

Musselburgh’s annual summer festival looks set to get wet and wild as the organisers test the water with a new event.

Keen to tap into the town’s seafaring heritage, the Honest Toun’s Association is hoping to introduce a raft race into this year’s programme.

Subject to approval from the Fisherrow harbourmaster, the event would take on Sunday, July 28, just before the start of the picturesque harbour ceremony.

HTA secretary Stefanie Talac told the News: “Obviously Musselburgh was an exceptional fishing town at one point. The festival is all about celebrating our history and traditions and you cannot do that without involving the fishing community.

“Events at the harbour are another way of incorporating that part of our history into the festival week, given that we no longer have events like the Fisherman’s Walk.”
