Heritage festival to reveal Cockenzie House potential
Members of the community are invited to sample the delights of historic Cockenzie House this weekend during a three-day programme of events.
Hosted by the Cockenzie House Heritage Group, the Celebration of Cockenzie House Festival gets underway tonight (Friday) with a licensed disco and ceilidh.
On Saturday and Sunday, the house and gardens will be open from 11am to 4.30pm for a makers market, an art exhibition, a children’s prize treasure hunt and music from Cockenzie and Port Seton Royal British Legion Pipes and Drums.
Another highlight will be the history room, where Sheila Ritchie will be joined by local artists Jane Murray and Ingrid Bell, who have been commissioned to create an installation based on the history of local industry, seen through the eyes of women, children and slaves. The installation will be a mix of art, new media and word.
Saturday also features a free tea dance from 2pm to 4.30pm and tales from the local writers group at 7pm.
