Haddington court closure process queried

Iain Gray MSP has written to Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill to ask him to clarify the process by which the final decision on the future of Scotland’s Sheriff and Justice of the Peace Courts will be reached.

The Labour politician, who has led the local campaign against the closure of Haddington Sheriff and JP Court, is keen to ensure that when the Scottish Court Service (SCS) publishes its final proposals next month, MSPs will fully scrutinise and debate the plans, with the final decision made by a vote in parliament.
