Saltire competition winners from Aberlady Primary School.

Aberlady Primary School pupils were delighted to receive a cheque for £100 after scooping the top prize for the best decorated dining room in a competition that tied in with East Lothian’s Saltire festival.

The Saltire festival was part of Event Scotland’s Winter Festivals programme and kicked off the weekend prior to St Andrew’s Day with a host of events around the county. It was jointly funded by East Lothian Council and Event Scotland and run with the help of the Better Event Company.

More than 5,500 people took part in the 2012 events.

East Lothian schools enjoyed haggis neeps and tatties as a special lunchtime treat and also decorated their dining halls. Aberlady Primary School came out tops – and they liked their bright dining room so much they kept the decorations up to tie in with their celtic week in January. The £100 will be used to buy arts and crafts supplies for the school.

They were presented with their cheque by East Lothian Council Chief Executive Angela Leitch and Eric Wales of the Better Event Company.
