From East Lothian to Serbia
Two men, from Tranent and Wallyford, and an East Lothian Council worker will be part of a contingent undertaking a mercy mission to Serbia, providing desperately needed rescue equipment and vehicles.
Keith Longworth from Tranent, Robert Wellwood of Wallyford and Ken Oakley who lives in Bonnyrigg, set out from Rosyth to transport badly needed fire engines and an ambulance to the troubled Balkan state.
The project is being organised through Blythswood Care, a Scottish based Christian Aid charity that has been working in Serbia for over 20 years.
The team will also be providing training to people in the rural town of Ljubovija, which will enable them to free crash victims without having to resort to unnecessary amputations.
It can take four or five hours for rescue teams to arrive at the scene of an accident and in some cases they come equipped with only saws and crowbars.
