Foodbank getting set to open for business in East Lothian

EAst Lothian’s Foodbank will officially open in January but organisers have pledged to help those in need in the run-up to Christmas.

The Tranent-based charity will provide emergency food supplies to individuals as well as charities and other groups working in the county to prevent or relieve poverty.

Local Labour MP Fiona O’Donnell has been the driving force behind the initiative and is now its secretary.

She said: “After months of hard work behind the scenes, I’m absolutely delighted that the foodbank is now properly constituted and ready to start helping local families facing food poverty. While it won’t officially start work until the New Year, I’m also really pleased that the trustees agreed we should do what we can to help local people over the next few weeks in the run-up to Christmas.”
