Flocking to Musselburgh bird show
Musselburgh and Whitecraig Cage Bird Society
The committee of Musselburgh and Whitecraig Cage Bird Society is hoping to take new members under its wing as it looks to the future.
Visitors to the society’s annual show, held in Inveresk Church Hall earlier this month, saw the number of exhibits down on recent years.
While this year’s poor breeding season for birds is held partly to blame, the committee recognises the need to attract newcomers to the fancy.
With its youngest members now in their 50s, it is particularly to attract young people.
Commenting on this year’s show, secretary Bill Wilson told the News: “Although numbers were down, the quality of the exhibits was extremely good.
“With several of last year’s exhibitors absent for some reason or other the committee was not totally disheartened by the turnout and is prepared to make sure that next year’s event is back to what we are accustomed to seeing at Musselburgh.”
