Energy boost for Dunbar centre

Hallhill Healthy Living Centre in Dunbar could soon be powered by solar and wind energy following a major cash boost this week.

The Dunbar Community Development Company is to share in a 277,000 Government grant which will help finance the installation of solar panels to reduce fuel costs at the community-owned sports and leisure facility.

Work to erect two wind turbines at the centre is also due to start on Monday as part of a separate 44,000 project which received funding from the Scottish Power Green Energy Trust and Scottish Executive.

Local councillor Norman Hampshire, development company chairman, said he did not yet know exactly how much they had received for the solar energy initiative but added that it might be around 62,000.
