End of road for battle in Pencaitland

The long saga of the formation of a new footway in Pencaitland in the wake of concerns about the narrowness of the pavement at the River Tyne bridge has reached an end.

East Lothian Council’s planning committee approved a plan for a new £250,000 path to the school via the churchyard after years of talks with the community.

Councillors heard that certain amendments had been made including removing a plan to extend the car park at Pencaitland Primary, allowing the footpath to be repositioned one metre further to the east in the school grounds.
