Eight points on licence after crashing car

A Longniddry man was uninsured when he decided to take a friend’s car for a drive “around the block,” Haddington Sheriff Court heard last week.

The jaunt came to an abrupt end when Jamie Swinton misjudged a corner and hit a tree, before careering through a garden fence.

Appearing before Sheriff Peter Braid on Wednesday, 24-year-old Swinton, 9 Kitchener Crescent, was fined a total of £700.

His licence was also endorsed with eight penalty points, taking him within one point of disqualification under the totting up procedure.
