East Lothian MP calls for contract promise
East Lothian’s MP Fiona O’Donnell is calling on the government to help safeguard the future of the Post Office network by awarding it a key DVLA contract.
The government is currently considering tenders for a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency contract worth an estimated £600 million over 10 years and the National Federation of Sub-Postmasters (NFSP) has warned that thousands of post offices could close if they lose out on it.
Post Offices already provide some DVLA services, including the processing of driving licenses, as a result of contracts awarded in 2007 and 2009. While these contracts have proved crucial to the Post Office, they are set to expire in the coming years.
