East Lothian jobs boost at food firm
Hall’s food products are to be made at Fenton Barns near Dirleton after Browns Food Group (Browns) purchased the brand from its Dutch owner Vion.
The deal, which is expected to create around 20 new roles at the East Lothian factory, was announced on Wednesday.
Vion confirmed the closure of the Hall’s meat factory in Broxburn, West Lothian, with the loss of 1,700 jobs last year. The purchase by Browns, which is headquartered in Kirkconnel, Dumfriesshire, does not include production facilities but 50 Hall’s jobs will be retained in the van sales operation throughout Scotland.
Fenton Barns will be responsible for the production of both vegetarian and meat haggis, along with the Hall’s pudding range. Belchers at Prestwick will produce Wee Willie Winkie sausages, breakfast and mixed grill packs, and lorne sausage.
