East Lothian Council counts cost of injury pay outs
Compensation claims totalling £777,000 were paid out by East Lothian Council over the last five years.
They include £3,932 to a claimant who caught their finger in a door.
The figures were obtained by the Scottish Conservatives, who branded some of the payouts “ridiculous”.
Statistics show that councils paid out more than £33 million to settle nearly 13,000 compensation claims.
In East Lothian these included £18,216 to someone who tripped on a manhole cover; £11,013 when the claimant was thrown from a bike which hit a pot hole: £10,272 to a pupil who fell in school grounds; £1,175 to someone who was injured when a temporary bus stop fell onto them and £5,015 to someone who fractured their ankle coming off a bouncy castle.
