East Lothian’s MSP Iain Gray has joined local climate change campaigner Stuart Smith to express concern after the Scottish Government confirmed it has failed to meet its first legally binding target for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Legislation from 2009 commits Scotland to reducing carbon emissions by 46 per cent on 1990 levels by 2020. The first Scottish Greenhouse Gas Emissions Annual Target Report admitted that the first target set in the legislation had been missed by two million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Climate change campaigners from across the country including Mr Smith from North Berwick, converged on the Scottish Parliament to highlight the failure and to press the Scottish Government to take more action to reduce emissions.
