Dunbar works cements new relationship with Kenya

Two African specialists enjoyed fact-finding mission to Dunbar cement works - now the site of a joint venture between Lafarge and Tarmac.
The companies formally completed their partnership this month to create a leading UK construction materials and services firm, Lafarge Tarmac.
The joint venture combines both companies’ cement and lime, aggregates, ready-mix concrete, asphalt and asphalt surfacing infrastructure sevices, and waste services in the country
Jared Kokach from Kenya is optimisation manager at Bamburi Cement Ltd - part of the Lafarge Group - and Azziz Abbu from Tanzania is senior environmental management officer at the National Environmental Management Council - the African equivialent of SEPA.
They visited the plant as part of an international project, the Commonwealth Fellowship programme, to show how environmental performance can be improved by developing constructive working relationships between industry, regulators and local communities.
