Dunbar residents gain from hours of sunshine
June Douglas has become the first householder to install a self-generating hot water system under a scheme run by BeGreen Dunbar & District, Energy Saving Scotland and East Lothian Council.
She received a UK Government subsidy of £300 through the Energy Saving Trust and a significant discount on the price of solar thermal panels in an offer open to all East Lothian residents.
Living in the Dunbar area, she also qualified for a BeGreen grant of £1,200 from Community Windpower, exclusive to people who live in the Dunbar and East Linton ward.
The grant is one of two June has received from Community Windpower, as she has taken the opportunity presented by the funding to install solar electricity, as well as solar water heating.
As a result, she expects to make savings on her gas and electricity bills and to generate an income from the national grid.
